Donation policy
Read how we manage, account for and use donations for maximum impact.
Financial accountability
Transparency is an important principle within Sadaqah Smile's working method, with special attention to our financial accountability. Every year, Sadaqah Smile prepares annual reports in which all income and expenditure are accounted for. The annual reports can be found on our website, so that donors and other stakeholders have insight into the expenditure of the funds received.
Types of donations
To provide clarity to our donors, we distinguish two types of donations.
Project-related donations
Project-related donations are fully spent on the purpose for which they were given. Sadaqah Smile has a 100% donation policy for these donations.
This means that project-related donations are exclusively used for the intended aid project. Costs that are not directly related to the project, such as promotional and bank costs, are not paid from project-related donations, but from other resources.
One-time donations and monthly sponsors
One-off donations and contributions from monthly sponsors are used to cover other costs, such as:
- Website and maintenance costs
- Transaction and bank costs
- Accommodation costs
- Costs for external assistance
- Promotion and communication costs
By covering these costs in this way, we guarantee the continuity of our work and we can maintain our 100% donation policy for project-related donations.
Spending of donations received
Project-related donations received, including any surpluses, will be used as quickly as possible for the implementation of the intended aid projects.
Surpluses from one-off donations and contributions from monthly sponsors are:
- reserved for future project costs, or
- used to cover other necessary costs.
Sadaqah Smile handles these resources carefully and responsibly. We strive to keep costs low and maximize the impact of every donation.
Board and volunteers
Board members and volunteers of Sadaqah Smile do not receive any compensation for their work. They volunteer to achieve the foundation's objectives. Any expenses necessary for the execution of work can be reimbursed, if applicable.
Refund and cancellation of donations
Donations to Sadaqah Smile are considered voluntary donations and are in principle irrevocable and non-refundable. By donating, the donor declares that he or she is aware that he or she is not entitled to a refund, unless there is a demonstrable error, such as a double payment. In such exceptional cases, the board may decide to refund (part of) the donation. No rights can be derived from such a decision.
