Aid for Gambia
Introduction
The Gambia has a remarkable length of 327 kilometres and is only a few dozen kilometres wide. With a population of about 2.6 million, almost half live in poverty, with limited access to essential basic needs such as clean drinking water and food. More than 60% of Gambians depend on agriculture for their livelihoods. They include mainly farmers and agricultural labourers, with a significant number of women and children. This community forms a large part of the poor population. Many of them are illiterate and lack knowledge and skills. Sadaqah Smile aims to change this.
Mission
Sadaqah Smile is committed to an important mission to realise meaningful change in The Gambia. Not only will we build multiple water wells in areas where they are most needed, but we will also distribute food packages to the needy and provide wheelchairs to people with disabilities. In particular, this project we are introducing a new theme: Agriculture. Our aim is to support farmers in setting up sustainable agricultural activities. This will not only give them the means to work for themselves and grow crops, but also build a solid foundation for their future.
